For the season of Lent, we walked with the Hebrew people “In the Wilderness with God” through the book of Exodus and into Numbers. In those early books of the Bible, God is working amongst the newly freed Israelites to create them into a new people.
They were invited to become a “kingdom of priests,” a people whose lives were to model God’s intention for humanity. We see in our own lives that we struggle to truly embody this calling. When we are honest…we might not even be able to imagine what that would look like for us. When we get honest with ourselves, we might not give a second thought to our own actions or beliefs or ideas most of the time. After all, we aren’t living in the wilderness like the ancient Israelites.
In some ways the book of Acts is like a New Testament version of Exodus. After the Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus, the early disciples had to wrestle with the same question we are asking, “How do we live like disciples in this mess?”
Sometimes this book feels like a modern reality tv show, as those early apostles and disciples worked through what it means to be God’s people in a world that often breaks our hearts.
So join us over the next two months as we engage in our new worship series, Acts & Deeds.
