During this Advent season our theme has been the practice of presence. We have also had times in our worship services for stillness, to quiet our minds and hearts and be open to the presence of God.

We would like to offer a further opportunity for developing these habits of the heart. For those who are interested, during the month of January there will be a small group study of the ancient practice of Christian mindfulness. We will use the book Right Here, Right Now , written by Dr. Amy Oden. The group will meet on Sunday mornings from 10:45 to 11:45 (during the Adult Ed hour). The dates for meeting are January 7, 14, 21 and February 4.

The books can be purchased from Cokesbury or Amazon for around $15.00. If you would like to be part of the study group but need help with the cost of the book, just let Kim in the office know and a book can be purchased for you.

Jayce Keeling will be facilitating the group. The readings for each of the four meetings consist of about 24 pages. Dr. Oden brings a wealth of experience and knowledge. She is professor of early church history and spirituality at St. Paul School of Theology. Her writing style is interesting and accessible. During the meetings there will be some time for written reflection as well as sharing of our responses and questions.

If you plan to attend, please sign up on the sheet on the table in the rear of the narthex.
